Beautiful things happen down in the hollow. However, working full time most of the day means I miss many of them. Tonight I am reflecting on God’s provision for the day. I woke up at 5:45AM to the beautiful sound of a whippoorwill singing its unique nocturnal song. A gentle rain fell today watering my garden, which saved me from doing that chore tonight. I visited a co-worker at lunch who had surgery this week. Although she experienced some pain and discomfort, she was thankful to be home and recovering, and anticipating returning to work as soon as possible (okay, maybe she’s nuts about the returning to work part, but my job runs more smoothly when she is there, so I’m not complaining!) My husband and I traveled safely to and from work, and returned to a warm home and fine southern style leftovers for dinner. Right now I have a brown tabby cat snuggled against my hip purring loudly with contentment. It is the little things that remind me to be thankful for the blessings God bestows. The media pushes greed, violence, self-gratification, and other distractions and the world has been blinded to what is important: We have a risen Savior who brings us life and life in abundance (John 10:10). God grant that we have the eyes to recognize the blessings in our lives and the hearts that reflect on them with thankfulness and praise.
