Creative and complicated, Jade McKinley felt like a weed in a rose garden growing up in Chapel Springs. When she left, she thought she’d never look back. But now, pregnant, alone, and broke, she has no other choice but to return.

The mayor of Chapel Springs, Daniel Dawson, has been an honorary member of the McKinley family for years. While his own home life was almost non-existent, Daniel fit right into the boisterous McKinley family. He’s loved Jade for years, but she always saw him as a big brother. Now that she’s back, his feelings are stronger than ever.

As Jade attempts to settle in, nothing feels right. God seems far away, she’s hiding secrets from her family, and she’s strangely attracted to the man who’s always called her “squirt.” Finding her way home may prove more difficult than she imagined.

My Review:

Another ‘good read’ in the Chapel Springs series by Denise Hunter. We meet Jade in Chapel Springs book 1. She is Madison’s musical, younger sister and has run-away to Chicago to start over. Things in Chicago are not going as Jade hoped, and after a forced physical encounter with a date, Jade, now pregnant, flees for home and a safe haven for herself and her unborn babies. She seeks the help of Daniel, a loyal family friend who has always been like a brother to her. Daniel has loved Jade for years and is patiently waiting for her to see him as a man who works hard, respects and honors her, and who deeply desires a family of his own. As Jade deals with the pain and shame of the past, and fear of the future, will she learn how to give love and accept love again?  Read this touching story by Denise Hunter to find out!
