Waterfall (River of Time #1)
What do you do when your knight in shining armor lives, literally, in a different world?
Most American teenagers want a vacation in Italy, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives among the romantic hills with their archaelogist parents. Stuck among the rubble of the medieval castles in rural Tuscany, on yet another hot, dusty archaeological site, Gabi and Lia are bored out of their minds…until Gabi places her hand atop a handprint in an ancient tomb and finds herself in fourteenth-century Italy. And worse yet, in the middle of a fierce battle between knights of two opposing forces.
Suddenly Gabi’s summer in Italy is much, much more interesting.
Audio Book Version Review: This was an exciting adventure/romance involving time-travel to Medieval Toscano, Italy. The two Betarrini sisters find themselves swept through time into the middle of two households at war, political intrigue, and betrayal. Battling culture shock, and struggling to return to their own time, the girls find themselves sacrificing their lives to protect those they know stand for truth, honor and … faithful love. There is some violent situations given there is medieval battle in the story, but nothing explicit. Medieval themed stories are often set in Great Britain or France, so this Italian setting is unique and the author lends elegance to a period that is often portrayed as barbaric. In this series one can see why Italy will be/is the birthplace of the Renaissance (remember this is a time travel series). The title, “Waterfall” refers to the pace of the story, and is followed by, “Cascade,” “Torrent,” and “Deluge.” Be prepared to be swept away and plunged over the waterfall in this exciting story by Lisa Bergren!
