I am Re-blogging this from May because Briar Mountain Farms has a new location in Oak Level at 10963 Virginia Avenue, Bassett, VA. They are offering two specials as part of their grand opening: a Buy 5 Soaps Get 1 Free and buy 2, 4-ounce lotions for $9.00. It is a great time to purchase some gifts or buy a little something to soothe your skin this winter. Visit their website at www.briarmtnfarm.com. The Cauleys can also be contacted at 540-263-0658 or by email at email@example.com.
I have respiratory and skin allergies to about everything that grows and lives outdoors. The dilemma is that I love to be outdoors, so I often pay a price to enjoy that freedom: skin rashes, itchy eyes, and asthma being the regular price tag.
When it comes to sensitive skin, grasses, leaves, bugs, temperature/weather, and even happy dog spit makes my skin itch and break out. I’ve tried store-bought products, soap, lotions, creams, and tinctures, to soothe my sensitive skin, but often the chemicals and preservatives in these products irritated my skin too.
One day I visited the local farmer’s market to buy some fresh decorations and food for Christmas. At one booth I met Paul and Melissa Cauley of Briar Mountain Farms. They were sharing samples of their goat’s milk lotion. At first I was hesitant, (as any allergy sufferer is), to try something new. However, I took the risk and walked around the farmer’s market shopping for the next half hour with my hands smelling of fresh, cool peppermint. The best part was that my hands did not itch or break out in hives and it felt great. It was the day my skin began doing a “happy dance,” and I bought a couple bottles of peppermint lotion, orange lotion, and several fragrances of goat’s milk soap for myself as an early Christmas present! (Note: The peppermint and orange are made with essential oils.)
All I can say is the feel of cool peppermint lotion on newly shaved skin is blissful! The orange and lavender lotions are soothing not only to the skin, but to the senses too. The soaps turned out to be a blessing to both me and my husband. We both found the oatmeal and honey soap to be a clean, pleasant scent, (not too masculine or feminine), and kind to dry winter skin. Within a month we both were sold on these great goat’s milk products!
**Briar Mountain Farms was built in the late 1800’s and is one of Virginia’s oldest makers of Goat’s Milk Soap, Lotion and other All Natural Products. They use a time tested soap recipe with only a handful of natural ingredients and then blend it with essential oils in order to bring you the best care for your skin. The recipe was handed down from a great grandmother and doesn’t include any of the harsh chemicals contained in store skin care items.
**The Cauleys raise and maintain a small herd of high quality Nubian Dairy Goats and use their fresh milk in almost all of their products. Goat’s Milk Soap and Lotion is great for your skin because the Goat’s Milk is almost the same PH level as the skin, which makes it very mild and wonderful for people with sensitive skin.

The final sparkle to this “local gem” is that Paul and Melissa are friendly and full of faith. They work hard to care for their herd of goats and take pride in producing a quality product for their family and their community. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting their small farm in late winter, (to pick up more lotion and soap of course!), and had the treat of meeting a newly birthed baby Nubian goat. It was a sweet experience and endeared me to these wonderful goat’s milk products even more. I encourage my readers to try Briar Mountain Farm products too!
