Jen Turano has another winner with Playing the Part, book 3 in the A Class of Their Own series. With Millie and Harriet married, Lucetta Plum hopes her matron-friend, Abigail Hart, has finished with matchmaking for a while. When Lucetta is threatened by a obsessed fan, Abigail whisks her off to her grandson’s estate, Ravenwood, in hopes of stirring up some romance. Lucetta and Abigail discover that Ravenwood may not be the safe-haven they wanted, and its owner, Bram Haverstein, has gothic secrets even if he is gallant and charming. In Turano fashion, mystery and mayhem keep the book well paced and fun, while the characters discover their need for acceptance, reconciliation, and love. My favorite quote? “What if Miss Plum was not as delicate as he’d believed, and what if the woman he’d been enamored with for what seemed like a very long time, turned out to be completely different than what he’d imagined her to be?” This quote seemed to set the stage for the entire story as Lucetta finds herself playing many parts the best which is her true self. I’m still smiling over Lucetta’s first encounter with the pack of mutts, the moat, the cannon, and my favorite…Geoffrey the goat!
